Yoga in the light of modern spirituality
“As a doctoral student, my research focuses on yoga and yoga communities. Instead of the historicity of yoga, I try to illuminate yoga in the light of modern spirituality. My aim is to create a conversation, to initiate a collective reflection and self-reflection on the social demand that is leading more and more people around the world to cleanse their spaces by burning sage and palo santo, to favour natural remedies, engaging in astrology, crystal energy, meditation, Tarot card casting, or wanting to connect with what is “authentic” through cocoa ceremony and ayahuasca rituals, and last but not least, yoga. We do yoga because we want to connect to something that is “ancient”. Instead of institutionalized religion, we seek something “authentic”. Why? And what is our role in this social process?”- Endre Kovács
