    • Shakespeare/37: 37 writers, 37 films, over a hundred actors, a permanent cast. 37 well-known Hungarian playwrights, prose writers and poets have written 20-40 minute etudes from Shakespeare’s works. The works, like Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, use the original work as inspiration for a new contemporary drama: reinterpreting the basic work, possibly revisiting it or highlighting an important philosophical, moral or intellectual element, a character or a scene – focusing on typical moral dilemmas that explore the changes in the state of mind of human beings, the actions of the characters and their effects in stories with which we are all familiar. The theatrical scenes, processed through filmic means, create a new style: the genre of film/theatre, which allows actors to portray the character they are playing in an arc similar to theatre performances, while at the same time the proximity of the camera allows the audience to see “hidden” reactions that are not possible in a traditional theatre because of the distance. The permanent cinematographer guarantees the stylistic unity of the films, while the permanent sound engineer elevates the sound coulisse to the status of an equal actor.
    • Malter: The ‘m’ stands for Hungarian cinema, and ‘alter’ stands for alternative cinematic representation of reality and alternative screening locations. Every year, the Malter Film Festival tours Hungary, bringing the best short films to more and more audiences. From amateur independent films to professional, studio-made works, the Malter Film Festival also provides a place for those subtle, edgy and sparkling nuances that cannot be found everywhere.
